This week’s Featured Artist is a smooth jazz musician from Ecuador, who is a composer/arranger and alto saxophonist. Meet – Pablo Ochoa
Born in Loja, Ecuador

Pablo Ochoa was born in the city of Loja, Ecuador. In 1998 he joined the group“Tambores y otros demonios” (Drums and other demons) as a percussionist, and it is with this group that he began his musical career.
In 1999 Pablo began to study and play the alto saxophone at the “Jaime Mola”Conservatory of Music, and in 2010, he concluded his studies with the saxophone at the National Conservatory of Music Quito(Conservatorio Nacional de Músicade Quito) in Quito, Ecuador. He also studied the saxophone/music with teachers from Ecuador, Cuba and the United States.
Pablo was a member of the Big Band Jazz of the National Conservatory of Music, directed by Larry Salgado, the Giro Jazz, Bird Quartet, and other jazz group ensembles. With these groups he performed at different musical events such asJazz in Situ, International Jazz Festival and Music Feast to name a few.
In 2012 Pablo completed his debut album “Walking”, and introduced the music listening audience to a lovely style of smooth jazz music, influenced by blues,bossa nova, swing and Latin.
Currently, Pablo is a composer, arranger, interpreter and teacher of Music Program at the (INEPE) Institute of Research, Education, and Promotion of Ecuador, where he works with children and young artists who look at music as a career and an important component of life. In this project Pablo is the director of the Saxophone Ensemble, and teaches students how to play the saxophone. He is also working on his second album.
